Greetings to the new Kinect Martial Arts International family and friends! This is really an exciting time to be a Student and/or Instructor associated with KMAI. As an instructor who has been around since the “old days”, I’m especially thrilled and proud to be a part of the changes taking place at KMAI. The Martial Arts, like any other set of skills you attempt to master, do not have to be static. At Kinect we are convinced that the way to proficiency in personal self-defense is to never stop training, never stop learning, and never stop looking for better and more practical ways of doing things.
With this in mind I’d like to go over the changes we have on our “radar” so far. Our core self-defense system, using biomechanical motions to generate maximum power will remain the same with only a few minor tweaks. Such changes will include the addition of spinning hand techniques; various elbow strikes, and the streamlining of some of the patterns. We will also be adding close range techniques to the testing requirements including wrist grabs, shoulder grabs, choking and bear hug escapes.
The biggest change is probably the inclusion of some rudimentary ground techniques. We aren’t going to be teaching “Brazilian Jujitsu” or making “UFC Fighters” out of anyone, but the latest research on personal self-defense shows that a large number of situations eventually end up on the ground. To help prepare our students for this scenario a part of the new curriculum will focus on how to stay on your feet and prevent a situation from going to the ground. Also, we’ll show you what to do to protect yourself and quickly regain an upright stance should you unexpectedly find yourself on the ground.
Other changes and different types of training will continue to filter into the KMA system as we constantly strive to give our students a well-rounded, easy to use martial art that really works when you need it! As always we want to hear from our students. Good or bad, let us know what you think because we really are committed to providing you with the best self-defense instruction available! Semper Fi
